Compare Basic Service Rates
The supply rate schedule changes won’t begin until August 2024. However, National Grid and Eversource customers will see basic service rate hikes starting on November 1, 2023, and January 1, 2024, respectively. In fact, National Grid customers will see their rates rise by nearly 29%, from 14.115 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 18.213 cents per kWh. As for Eversource customers, they currently pay 16.078 cents per kWh. And while we don’t yet know what the new January rates will be, extreme weather can lead to higher prices.
To put this in perspective, the average MA home uses about 600 kWh of energy per month. So National Grid monthly supply charges will rise from about $84 a month to about $109 a month. And Eversource customers may see supply charges rise even higher that the current estimated average of $96.
