The Houston people will get it right!
Many problems were not resolved - auto bill pay rejected (they blamed Chase), bills never received through the mail (despite two requests), couldn't understand the employees "English," etc. (They have employees on the phone who are from India and Colombia.) UNTIL I spoke with Matt and then Demetrias who both helped me and spoke perfect English! Of course as I surmised, they were both in the Houston office! I just renewed my contact with Amigo energy for another 12 months using auto draft and was giving a rate of 9.4 kwh. I have been very happy with their service this past year and new lowered rates. Amigo energy keep up the good work at helping Texas families save money in these hard economic times.

No monkey business, just low rates
I've used them for over a year on the variable plan. I have not had drastic rate changes (month to month), and I am considering locking in my current or even a lower rate with them for a 6 month contract.

Satisfied
Sorry for all those bad reviews I just read, but honestly I've had better service with Amigo than I ever had with HL&P and Stream energy. Amigo promised me a non variable low rate, locked in contract and I've been with them 3 years now. Once contract is up I lock it again at same or lower rate. As for Customer service, I've had no problem with them yet.

Amigo is Honest
I left a big company out of disgust a few years back when they pulled some strange stuff. It was even in the media that they were suspected of jacking up prices one very hot summer, taking advantage of folks. Amigo has never done anything but offer fair prices, good service and easy auto pay. I do appreciate that and have two accounts, have been with them for several years. Any strange stuff and I'm gone. But so far no worries about that. The reason I gave 3 on order - I did one account online and it said my electricity would be turned on a particular day - didn't happen, it was hot weather and I was mad. However, the weekend messed up things with Oncor - the Big Boss, so I got over it. Customer service was a 4 because sometimes the wait is long, however the folks are courteous and prompt in their service once you get through. Honestly you rarely need to call them, so no huge deal in the end.

Pleasantly Surprised
I must admit I was a bit apprehensive when I got Amigo Energy simply because I had never heard of them before. In my experience, all the others always hit you with surprise charges and provisos. To make it even worse, when you are not happy with them, they make sure you are going to pay a hefty price for your bad decision. This time I did my homework and decided to try Amigo out. I am very happy to say that I have never been happier. The rate options are great and customer service is an actual living, breathing human being! They have always been there to help me when I need them and the real shocker is they are always in a great mood. When I chat with my neighbors they are shocked at how low my monthly bills are. For the past 3 months my bills have never gone over $35 dollars. Yes! $35.00 bucks! I definitely recommend that you do your research on option plans, fees, rates, etc. Since they are constantly changing but Amigo Energy will always come on top as the best plan. Just be careful with the "others" small print. I have noticed that they have scrambled to make their fees look great but will not last more than 12 or 24 months and disconnection fees may give you a heart attack. So far, I have been with Amigo Energy for almost four years. I have had two contracts and I still got a great rate the second time around. Since day one, I have never had problems logging into my account online, with the auto-pay charges, technical or account issues. This is the first time that I am absolutely worry free about my electrical bills.

I've had Amigo since 2006 and they have been fine - even gave me the $25 referral credit after I contacted them though they said I didn't put in the right code. Only bummer thing is the $2/mo fee for using a credit card. But changing now because rates are too high... I'd definitely recommend.

Nice Company
I found an affordable, 6-month rate with Amigo. I ordered the service a bit late--just a couple of days before move-in, but they were really understanding and had everything up and running in time for my move. I found the renewal plan too expensive, so I canceled without any trouble. Customer service was always nice.

i had NO ISSUE whatsoever. they started on the day i requested, i had not 1 interruption at all.the first bill was kinda tricky and high due to some billing issues and fine prints...i cant blame AMIGO ENERGY for it because its the freaking government that lets them do these "gotchas"....its just incredible that none of this is regulated. but over all, I was happy with them, my 12 months was up and i had to drop them due to an increase in rate.

I do not understand the other negative comments I have read on the reviews. They also are offering referral rebates but are not based on dog and pony show marketing. I like this company!

Pretty good experience
Re-upped with Amigo after an initial 6-month term. Without negotiating, I was offered another 6-month renewal rate lower than a new customer rate, and much lower than what is advertised as their returning customer renewal rates online. Renewal process took 5 minutes. Honestly, was very surprised, as I usually have had to ask for a new customer rate with my previous service providers upon renewal. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.Also, person spoke English!!!! Was not based in another country. Allowed me to opt out from marketing calls, as well.Lastly, like other customers, I was billed an Internet ACH fee of $5 in my last bill. Customer service gave me a solution to not paying it - just set up an auto-pay. It's auto-debited on the due date, so nothing lost. Will see how things go this next 6 months and keep my fingers crossed that rates don't move upward too much by June.

Good overall. Only point of issue would be the billing. They charge $5 to pay online (though I didn't get that charge last time I paid) and the bills come in the mail sometimes shortly before the bill is due!
But (because a bill came late) I got a disconnect notice and the date was due. I called and they were friendly and extended my date so my payment could go through.

My fault they made it right.
We pay our bill the same day we receive it, but as will happen with electronic bill pay, we filled out the bill pay at our banks website but evidently didn't actually save the bill pay but closed the website before doing so. Figuring the bill was paid we didn't do anything else. We got a late pay notice with a charge of about $26 more than the bill, for late fee and cancellation notice fee. I called customer service and because we have been a 4 year customer with no late payments they quickly credited the charges back to my account. I felt this was more than fair.

Very impressed
I never write these but this company has been awesome and thought i take the time to give them a little praise. Really wish more companys like comcast would follow there customer service. Been with amigo a couple years. Twicevi have had issues with my power. Unfortunately the problem was me. Was working out of town, lost my card and received a call my power was off. Made a phone call expecting them to tell me had to wait to receive my card and they would cut back on. I really called just to get it scheduled asap after receiving itvin 2 days. The lady told me it was fine, told me to pay it when i received card and cut it on within a hour without any payment. All she said was next time call as soon as i can which i should have but had alot on my mind. Also i told her to payment in 48 hours. She told me she would add a extra 2 days in case i had a problem receiving. Amigo energy also send weekly usage with peak usage so you can control bill. Not many companys would have done that. I do recommend this company. Just wanted to thank you guys.

Great company for 6 years
I've had Amigo since 2006 and they have been fine - even gave me the $25 referral credit after I contacted them though they said I didn't put in the right code. Only bummer thing is the $2/mo fee for using a credit card. But changing now because rates are too high... I'd definitely recommend.

Not bad
I picked their company based on price alone. It was a great deal. I had no problems with getting my bill by email every month, and I liked that they sent it .pdf, so I didn't have to log in to look at the bill. (They do only give it to you about 2 weeks before it is due though). Unfortunately, when it came time to renew, their prices were a lot higher than most of the other companies. They sent me several emails with 'deals' to renew, but every one of them was higher than the average of the other companies on powertochoose.org. I also appreciated that they reminded me of when my contract was going to expire, so I wasn't surprised when the rates went up. But at the end of the day, they didn't want to keep their customers long term, so I switched to save a few bucks. I would recommend them---if their rates are good on the day you are looking.

Overall pleased but will be switching
My review is very similar to the last one. I have zero complaints from Amigo other than being caught off guard for a $2.00 monthly credit card autopay fee.Their prices for new customers are very competitive, but thats where the good prices end. When it comes time to renew, their renewal offers are easily 1.5 to 2 c per kwh higher than average. If they had been able to provide the rate they provide to new customers (still seen on powertochoose.org) I would have stuck with them.Alas I am not, I love switching from REP to REP every 6 months to get the lowest rate I am comfortable with.

Harassing phone calls
I recently changed my provider and Amigo Energy combined my last months bill with my partial months bill. They sent me a confirmation email regarding my final bill and was slated to be payed by my auto payment on Wed. the 10th of May. Starting received several harassing pre-corded phone call to call them with regard to my late payment. In talking to one of their reps I was informed that it was automated and they could not be stopped even though it may not be the customers fault for the delayed payment. The rep mentioned that if my account was not payed on the 10th by automated payment method that she would call me and make other arrangements for me. Well...my automatic payment was deducted this morning and of course I received an additional harassing phone call this afternoon with regard to my "non-payment". Really disappointed with this issue and will not do business with them again. I mentioned to the rep that it wasn't my decision to combine my previous month's bill this the last and final bill but rather something that they initiated. I would have been perfectly fine with them taking my automated payment last month and then a final payment this month.

I live in Houston and like many trying to put my life back together after the storm. I was out of work for due to the weather for a week in a half so of course no work no pay. I ask for some time they give me until today but I called today to see if I could get until next Friday the men said sure but if you don't pay we will cut your light off. This is what got me why are why sending out emails to customers saying that y'all understand if we need time or help because many of us was affected by the storm to call. What help are y'all giving to your customers at this time? That's not helpful now I'm worried about what if I didn't make enough money to pay on everything and if my lights are going to be turned off.

Renewal quotes too high
There's alot I like about Amigo. Their initial rate through Texas Electricity Ratings was really good. They send weekly usage reports so I know how much I'm spending each week and estimated monthly bill so I can adjust usage. I never had a billing issue. Cons - It took a long time for them to set up the transfer. I made several calls in the first weeks because I never heard from them and I was afraid I wouldn't have power. Their renewal quote was 5 cents per kw hour higher than what my contract was, much higher than any company on this site. I hate to move companies again, but it's too high to continue. Recommendation if you have a good quote with them would be to lock it in for several years.

At the end of our arranged fixed pricing term, we moved to another provider. Amigo Energy sent us a final bill which indicated they would bill our auto-pay credit card. Instead, however, they did not charge the card, added a late fee, and sent the bill to a collections agency. They did not email or contact us until the bill was transferred. Credit was hit. They charge outrageous fees. Even when their Auto Payment system fails to work, you end up paying late and disconnect fee of over $25 for a $50 bill. If you didn't have your Auto Payment setup, you have to pay $5 to $10 fee towards "Payment", even if it check, or credit or debit card.

WAS a good company
Unfortunately, this company has been sold twice since I first signed up and is now owned by one of the biggest electricity providers. Gone is the great customer service provided by employees who cared. Gone also is any effort to retain loyal, longtime customers. In return you get treated just like you do with a huge company. Their policy seems to be to stick you with a much higher renewal rate if you are stupid enough to hang around. It's sad that any company operates this way. I'll be going elsewhere.

No bill received / late fee an termination notice recv'd 4 days later
I did not receive a bill in Dec 2013. I did not notice, possibly missed due to heavy email volume that I receive every day, or spam file delivery. Not really sure why. Due date was 12/23. On Dec 27 a disconnect notice and $22+tax "Disconnect Notice Fee" was sent to me and received on 12/28. This works out to a 20% fee on a $100 balance. I immediately paid the bill online. This is my fault for not noticing that I had not been billed, but a disconnect notice and $22+tax fee after 4 days with not even a "did you forgot to pay your bill email or letter"? Nope. Not going to stand for this. I've had electricity service for 40 years, and I've been with numerous companies over the last 10 years since power to choose. CAN'T WAIT FOR MY CONTRACT TO EXPIRE, then moving on to another provider. Note: on hold with customer service for 15 minutes, but they DID remove the late fee, so that brings down my anger level a little.

Bad Billing and Customer Service
Amigo had great service for start-up and a good price. Things went downhill from there. I was called about having them install a "smart thermostat" and it was explained that even though there was a $25/month charge it was guaranteed that I would save money. I saved no money the 1st three months (during the summer when there is the most opportunity for savings) I had them remove the stat within the 90 day "grace period", The $75 that I paid was never refunded. Now when I cancelled my service I was billed $295 for the thermostat that they took out. This was taken from my account by automatic draft. After an extended time on the phone and talking to several people, they said they would refund my money within 10 days. I called them after 16 days to find out where my money was and they said it was coming by check and would take 3 to 4 weeks.

$29 Late Fee's!
I have been a long time customer of Amigo Energy however in recent months I noticed my bill getting higher. Normally we just pay our bill but with my recent lay off we have had to pay closer attention to bills. Of course, because of the layoff, we have had to shuffle manage bills in a way that didn't always allow paying on time, thus the late fees. This is when I noticed the $29 late fees. Now don't get me wrong I understand a charge for paying late however what I am struggling with is a mindblowing $29 late fee! I can understand a $5 or even $10 late fee but $29!?!?! I just think this is nickel & diming people to death! So now I am looking for another carrier. Oh, by the way, be on the lookout for the $10-month fee that they never make mention of when they are pitching their low rate sale because it means your not paying that $0.07 per kWh, you paying more once you factor in this fee.

Leased a home, had Amigo for the 4.5 years we lived there. Landlord called TXU to transfer service for the first day after my lease ended. And since TXU contacted them before I did, they will not remove the $175 early term fee. I have provided proof that I was moving, and the new address isnt in an area that you can choose your own provider, which they admit is an acceptable reason to cancel and not be charged. Theyre not budging and CS Reps are not helpful - not real sure Im being transferred to a supervisor when I ask for one. So, use caution if/when you move.

I am in my house without power its 40 F in my house. Amigo promised my power would be on today. They said if they needed any additional information they would contact me. I called this morning and the lady on the phone said they needed two items from me and I informed her that they never called. She apologized and said it would take 24-48 hours to get power on in my house. I told her that I had opted for priority for an extra fee on my bill so I could have power today. She said if they cant get it on today then I wouldnt have to pay for the priority yet I wouldnt have power. I emailed the documents and called back a few hours later to make sure they were received. The lady on this call promised Id have power in a few hours. Its been 3 hours and when I called back theyre office was closed. They dont open again until Monday and I have work on Monday and need power. Let me stress again that my house is cold and my food is going to go bad. I am so beyond upset.

Use Amigo only if it is just a simple one account connection. They cannot handle any out-of-the-box situations
I had Amigo services for a year and would give them all 5 stars - I had no problems with their services. Now, I had to move the services to the new address while keeping service in my previous residence until the new tenant takes over. It had been a very frustrating experience with very nice customer service representatives keeping you on the phone for hours, assuring you that everything is handled like you requested. Just for me to find out 4 days later that the service was cut off at my old address causing the fridge to leak, food spoilage, and huge mess! They "resolved" this problem by apologizing and reconnecting the service, but now, a month later, I found out that they never connected the service to my new address, and my apartment was providing electricity which resulted in huge amounts in fine! Spoke to the manager and was promised a review of the case and compensation... This is still to be seen.

Know your rights
In Texas when you move you are not subject to cancellation fees. I called to disconnect my service because I was moving to a property that already had electricity setup at a better rate. When I told the customer service rep I was moving her response was "we can transfer service" which is totally fine. Then I told her that electric is already setup at the other property, she then went into a spill about how I'm going to have to pay a cancellation fee and how it will be charged to me etc. She then said I would need to provide proof of move out like it was some impossible task.
It seems like their script is meant to lead you into keeping them or paying a(n illegal) termination fee.
Outside of this they try to lock you into other plans by constantly calling you to say they have a better plan for you based on your last usage. Which in my case was actually not true. They do this to lock you into a longer term. But they did stop calling when I told them to.

Ordering
Ordering Amigo was a hassle. I ordered my plan according to what my Sunrun rep recommended. Amigo rep told me another plan would be less expensive and better with my Solar and Tesla battery. He was wrong. I switched back to the plan I originally requested before my service actually started and for some reason it never got switched. After 3 weeks and multiple calls my plan still has not been switched. I was promised they'd pull my recorded call and place me on the pricing I was originally quoted. I still haven't been switched to the correct plan and am being charged higher fees. Called someone again today so hopefully they do their due diligence and back date my plan to the date I started and correct my billing.

I was merged into Amigo energy and went without a bill for awhile. When I finally did get a bill, it was over $500 and they were charging me at a rate of 25 cents. This was a huge increase, and I wasn't given any notice at all of the change and my rates didn't remain the same. When I called, they told me that the post office was to blame, even though I eventually got bills from July and TWO from August!

I would not purchase Amigo again! The thing i dislike the most about Amigo is that, i have used their service for alittle over a year now. I have never been late paying my bill! So i just happen to pay my bill online and the soonest the payment would be recieved was only day after the due date! One Day! So they send me a disconection notice and would not take the fee off for disconnection notice extra $$$!!!! Being a first time offence and they did get payment you would of thought they would excuse that so they didnt and know i am looking for New Service! Double Billing
I was a supporter of Amigo Energy until they changed their billing system, and double charged all their customers---and act as if their giving you good customer service by having you extend your doubled bill. You're not fooling anyone with a false extension. It's like paying a bill every 15 days..instead of monthly. I got my a second bill four days after another, and they lied and said it was a system glitch. If it's a glitch, why can't you fix it. They're looking for a sneaky way to update their accounts, since they charge from the prior month. I can't wait until my contract is up. It's over!

Unreasonable
My review is in relation to their customer service. I know that there are
fraudulent people out there changing services, etc. but what I
experienced with Amigo was SO FRUSTRATING!!!
Last week, my husband and I got on the phone with them to ENSURE
that BOTH of us were listed on the account in order to handle any
transactions.
When I called this week to disconnect services at one house, they
wouldn't let me, but only wanted to talk to my husband. (That's WHY
we called last week, to authorize BOTH of us!!!) Customer Service told
me that I was authorized to do anything BUT disconnect. (not true AND
they couldn't find where we called about that request - I even had a
date and a customer service reps name.)
So here we are in the middle of a huge move, and I had to bother my
husband at work to ONCE AGAIN handle the disconnect services.
I'm not liking the other reviews I've read....perhaps I'll be looking for
another service company at my next house....

Would not do it again
We did not receive a bill for he month of August, and on Friday, August 26, 2011, found that a disconnect notice was sent to us. This occurred after business hours on Friday. The cutoff date was August 29, 2011, effectively giving us Saturday only to take care of the bill at one of the three vendors that take payment for Amigo Energy, which we did, at a cost of $2.00 plus having to make a quick trip to the bank since they only take cash. This was humiliating and unnecessary. After calling, all the customer service people would say is they sent the bill and would wave the $22.00 disconnect notice. Their business processes are garbage. We didn't receive a bill and were going to be charged an extra $22.00. There is a problem here that needs cleaned up.

Continued to bill after I changed companies. Several calls were answered with promises they would get it fixed. Displeased Consumer
Amigo Energy's negligence has cost my family thousands of dollars. Due to their own ignorance in their billing they shut the power off to my property while my family was away on vacation. Upon returning from vacation I had to take another day off from work to clean up the huge mess left by the melting/thawing goods from our refrigerator/freezer(s). When I called the Manager at Amigo they admitted no fault and were unwilling to help with the cost of the losses. More to come on this story!

When I signed up for Amigo the rate was 8.9 cents. Great deal huh? Not so much...every month I am charged a $6.95 monthly account fee plus $5 internet payment fee. Good deal not worth horrible customer service
I was left without power in the new home that we were moving into because of a glitch in the ordering process (was notified the DAY BEFORE that my order could not be filled on time. I was busy moving and did not get the message). When I called to have this resolved, customer service literally laughed at me and told me that I would have to pay an "emergency connect" fee. I had a small child and this happened in the heat of a Texas summer, so I had no AC. Needless to say I had to pay $80 extra just to have the power turned on for an order that I had placed a week before.
I will never use their service again and would not recommend them to anyone.

Terrible customer Service
This company is cheap but not cheap enough to deal with the total lack of customer service. After signing up for this service, I waited and waited for our email bill. I called them three times to check that all our information was correct and was reassured that everything was correct and that I should just be patient and wait for the email. Then out of the blue our electricity was disconnected with no warning. I had received no bills at all. This was at 7am. their office did not open until 8am to complain. It took my husband and I close to an hour on two separates phones to get anyone to answer our phone call. They had the wrong email address despite insisting three times and treating me like I was an irate customer that they had it correct. Then they informed me that I had a disconnect charge of $25 and that it could take up to 24 hours to reconnect the electricity. I had to call the public utility commission and complain. It took about 6 hours to switch back on and with a lot of arguing they refunded the charges. I have lost all confidence in this company and we are waiting the 6 months until the contract is up and changing to a better company even if it costs more. I do not recommend this company to anyone. They should have sent a disconnect notice by mail, even if they charged for it, or made a phone call. In some circumstances this could have been dangerous. As it was my husband could not get the car out of the garage to go to work and we were left on what was probably the coldest day of the year with two small children and no heating hoping that our pipes would not freeze.

Consumer beware!!!
Getting started was a breeze and everyone was so nice and friendly. Once I committed to a contract, boy did that ever change things! Every single time I have to call, the associates are just plain rude. They must have the most unhappy employees you could ever meet.In addition to the negativity from the employees, they also told me twice that service would not be interrupted when I called to make a payment arrangement. I simply had to wait until payday before I could pay my bill. I called and they said it was acceptable. When my power was shut off days prior to this, I called and they said nothing could be done because services were already disconnected, regardless of the fact that they agreed to let me pay on my payday.Don't stop reading now, it gets better! I was using their autopay system when I first signed up. I changed this because it was not convenient for me, as I did not get paid on a normal 2 week or monthly pay cycle. I called to have autopay turned off and they said it was disabled. For 3 consecutive months, autopay was NOT turned off and each time it put my checking account in the negative. I had to resort to having my bank put a permanent stop payment from my checking account to this company. After that, when I paid my bill until the contract was up, I had to load a prepaid card or go to ace cash express to pay my bill because I did not want them having my bank details again. This is hands down the worst experience I have ever had with ANY company, not just electric providers. It absolutely baffles me how they are still in business and retaining customers when their rates aren't the best rates available.I hope I can prevent other people from the frustrations I have had with amigo.

Harrassment, overcharging, fraud, and deceit
I chose Amigo when I moved to Texas a little over a year ago because I wasn't familiar with how the unregulated system in Texas works and it was the company the previous owner of my home used. I wish I had done more research. My bills were high, even for Texas standards and you could only get an answer out of customer service sporadically. I had multiple issues getting my account set up for auto payment and the bill never really reflected what I thought I had agreed to. Then in December I began to get calls about the new smart thermostat. I was unemployed at the time but my current home thermostat was over 20 years old and on its last leg. At the promise that it wouldn't cost me a dime extra and was "guaranteed" to save me money. I agreed it. The salesmen kept calling, even after I purchased the product. I finally had to threaten one of them with being reported and also blocked them on my phone to get the calls to stop. Between that and the fact that I never could get an actual cost of the unit, it should have been a sign. However, I let a very inexperienced technician, that they sent, install it, though they never were able to get it fully integrated, supposedly because I used Verizon (which I told them from the first phone call). A few months later, when it was time to renew and they didnt offer me a rate even close to what the rest of the market was offering, I decided to switch providers. I emailed them asking what needed to be done, why my last bill was such a mess, and what I needed to do with the thermostat. I never received a reply but a month later I received a final bill from them, paid it and forgot about it. Now two months later I have received a $500 bill for the thermostat! Im appalled. I wont be paying it, its fraud. I would never recommend this company and would advise others to please do your research before signing an agreement with them. They will rip you off.

After receiving my cancellation notice (1 yr up) I transferred to another company and was then charged the early termination fee for ending within 2 weeks of the end of the contract. I spoke with a representative who could not give me a decent rate and told me that I could go elsewhere now that i had received the cancellation notice. Obviousely not because on my last bill was a 125.00 fee + a 5.00 "one time credit card fee". I have been paying the same way for 11 months and was told that the service for a C.C. payment was truly one time. Don't believe it. They take 15 hours to re-connect your electricity!
This is the 3rd time I do not receive a bill and get my lights cut off. They claim all the information is correct then charge a disconnect fee, this time they said i need to be on an email so they can email me my bill and I still haven't received an email. All of a sudden my lights get cut off, I call at 3pm to pay the bill, they say it takes 2-6 hours to re connect and once it was 9pm I called to see why they haven't been back on their office is closed. Mind you that Houston weather is hot at its peak hour of 4pm and I have 2 small boys. I called centerpoint to see if there may be a power outage and they say no but my electricity is cut off because of payment and they never received a re-connect notice. I had to go rent a hotel room because it was so hot, my food got bad. I called Amigo energy at 8am on the dot to see WHY my electricity was never on and all they could say was that the re-connect notice was sent to centerpoint and they don't know why it wasn't put back on. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they sais she would call me back and never has, her name is supposedly El. And i am still waiting for her phone call, my light just got put back on at 11:00 am the next day, that was 15 hours later. That is after I told an amigo saes person I would not recommend them nor offer there services through my 5Linx company, which offers Amigo Energy. My contract ended 5/8/2013 and I switched or attemped to switch 14 days before contracts end and I was temporarily trapped by Amigo, because of a deferred payment arrangment, which was fullfilled 8 months pryor. They also continued to collect the deferred payments months after I had paid my balance in full......I was told the system kept it on the bill and it would be adjusted, in which it stilll hasn't. Now they jumped my rate from 9.4 to 13.9 and think there gone to get paid, well to the Amigo corp. I say get it how you live, you want be broke as long as I owe you. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY
Initially, you will probably get a good rate, but they will stick it to you at renewal time. My previous contract had a $9.95 per month base rate, in addition to the usage rate, for usage less than 1000 kwh. With the renewal, the base rate was increased to $19.95 per month. In other words, you are penalized for conserving electricity. This is a common fee for all providers, but all others are $9.95. I will have to pay a penalty to cancel my service, but I cannot get anyone to call me back to discuss this. According to Amigo, I am one of their "Valued Customers." They obviously need a dictionary.

What a bunch of jerks!!!!
I used this company before, boy am I stupid for using them again. I moved to a neighboring city and did not have a place to live and stayed with friends. I wanted my deposit left with Amigo until I found a place. They would not let me do that so they took out my last bill out of my deposit and they owe me 109.00. I have now found a place and have gotten the boggiest run around about when my deposit will be sent to me. I have been told three different dates now it is 90 days from when I had my electricity terminated. What a bunch of crooks. If I wanted to go with them again I would have to pay another $175 dollar deposit and they are still holding $109 of my money. I called the t Texas Utility Commission in Austin and filed a complaint with them yesterday. The Texas law states that they have to return it in a "REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME" But of course this is not defined!!! We need to get that changed so that it is a clear set time such as rent deposits have to be returned in 30 days. If you are thinking of using Amigo DON'T!!!!

They actually tried to send us a bill for an almost $500 month when the balance on the automated line said it was only $193. Bare in mind, we practice energy efficient living. So this is bull. Never Again!
I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt when they switched me to them within a few hours of signing up not within 3 days as they said they would when I got an email confirmation to them. I found that they were my new service provider because I went in to check my TXU account and said I was no longer a customer. I then called Amigo and they told me that they had switched me to their account on that same day that I signed up. Mind you, the email said if you wish to cancel the switch make sure to call by the 3rd day with no penalty fee or something along those lines. Then the guy tells me that I cannot cancel the service anymore, but their confirmation email said something else. So, I sucked it up said it would be a year before I could cancel the contract since by that time it was too late to cancel. Within the first month I get a notification that my bill is late and was charged a $20 fee. I wasn't aware that my due date had changed and this was something they couldn't do anything about either. When I called it took about an hour to get through and only to get a simple "sorry we cannot change the due date on your bill." I've been waiting for August to come around so I can cancel them, well Thank God that I am moving because I would have never known that they can't even transfer your service to your new location without having to start with a whole new contract! Yeap, they told me that the current contract would cancel itself because I am moving and a new one would have to start - so I was upset clearly because I did not want to have to start all over again with this terrible company when all I wanted was to get out. I asked how much the fee was going to be for completely canceling the service next month because I did not want them to continue to be my provider when I moved to my new place and thankfully they said that because I am moving I do not have to pay a cancellation fee of $150. Well at least I can say that is one good thing! With this I would not recommend Amigo Energy the service is just not worth the few cents you'll save a month.

They post your payment late even if you send it in early
I use online banking to pay my bill from my bank. While all my other bills paid this way generally clear in 5 working days (receipt acknowledged by my cell, water, gas, etc providers) Amigo often takes longer. Just recently it took 8 business days (12 days in total) for them to register my payment. Of course this was after the due date and I was sent a pink disconnect notice and charged a $22 disconnection fee. After this happened twice I figured that this was just a slimey way for them to milk me for more money. They are not a good-faith company- to operate in this manner and I will dump them when my contract ends. To be fair, I complained to them about both 'late postings' and they 'waived the fee'....how very nice of them to be so generous. Notice they admit nothing. They were doing me a 'favor'.

Today I got my electricity shut off. Good thing I happened to be off today, because it was not shut off until mid-morning and if I had been at work, I would not have had a clue until almost 6 pm. The reason it is cut off?? They said "non-payment" which is absurd because I paid last month, just like I do every single month on the same day. Apparently when I paid on their app which RARELY works, it didn't update in their system. Now, after getting it figured out, they tell ME that it will take "2-6 hours, no more than 24 to get cut back on" even though it is THEIR mistake. So I will have no air (in Texas summer), my food in my refrigerator and freezer will thaw, and I cannot plug in my phone or laptop that I need for school work and safety. This is RIDICULOUS!!!!!! I have had an old boyfriend that used a different company and his roommates would often forget to pay the bill, and they could go MONTHS without it getting shut off, and when they did, it would be turned back on within one hour. This happened to me after only one month and their mistake. This company is a piece of shit.

Did not receive my $175 deposit back after being on autopay the entire time and never missing a payment and several sales reps made up two completely different stories as to why that was, random charges, etc. After my second 1 year contract ended and calling and finalizing my account/moving out, with which the sales rep stated I would not be charged anymore, I was charged another month that I was not even living in the apartment ( the13th month out of a 12 month contract) for very sketchy reasons. I am assuming this is standard operating procedure for their company so that during that transitional time between residents they still get paid.Other than that no power outages or problems, but 1) dont expect to get your deposit back and 2) the sales reps arent fun to deal with.

Never have I experienced such uncaring individuals! Not to mention their late pay practice in completely ridiculous. Here in Texas you have such big electric bills in the summer you get hit with a late charge THE DAY AFTER YOUR BILL IS DUE! Then five days after they the mail you a notice of termination which is another 22.00 just because they had to mail you the notice!! And they won't refund it when your payment has crossed this mailing! COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS!! I have never had an electric company with this type of practice!! Plus I don't know what has happened but my electric bill have NEVER been higher than they are right now with this company!! I think there is a scam somewhere!! I will vow to tell as many people as I can not to choose this company!!

I even called and asked them if they're using scare tactics to try to get me to pay extra. I swear the minute I can I'm switching to a REAL company!

Worst customer service and billing
I just finished with my contract and I'm so happy to be able to switch. They would never send me a bill or email notification that my bill was due. I would have to login to their site and hope that I was in time to pay my bill (then charged to pay it online). Although they would never send bills, they would send pink disconnection notices with outrageous fees and when I called, none of the reps could hardly even communicate with me in English and they would all claim that my first bill had been sent out.

Amigo Energy likes to steal money right off your hands
If you're shopping around for an electricity company DON'T GO WITH AMIGO!!!! I started with them November 2014 and can't wait for my contract to expire and go with another company. I picked a "Green Program" and every month I get charged a lot more...when calling them their personnel is very rude!!! If by any means you can't make your payment on time you get a penalty of $11 and a few days later a disconnection letter along with an additional $22 penalty fee....that's close to $35. I regret going with this company and just counting the days to switch to a different provider.

I regret ever signing up for this company. Should've known with a name like "Amigo" Energy it would be a company that is not with the game. Right now, I can't simply logon to my account...that should be easy enough but it is not. The website is crap. I paid anywhere from$75-85 with Reliant and now with Amigo, anywhere from $128+. I could go on and on with my complaints. Please do not sign up with them. Terrible.

Questionable billing (and mailing) practices
I have been a customer with Amigo for 5 years now, and I never had any issues with them until this year. It all started about six months ago when I received a disconnect notice in the mail after never having received my original bill. I assumed it was a Postal Service error and paid the bill. A few days later, my original bill arrives in the mail, postmarked three weeks previous--yes, Postal Service error. For the next few months, I receive nothing but disconnect notices in the mail in lieu of bills. Fed up, I then attempted to access my account online to change my billing preferences to paperless billing, and--surprise!!--I can't log in. So I call customer service and have my billing preferences changed. Everything runs smoothly for one month. Then, in lieu of my emailed bill, I receive another disconnect notice via Postal Service. How is it that these people can send out a disconnect notice on time, but not a bill (and a PAPERLESS bill, at that)?? I checked my spam folder to make sure my bill wasn't misfiled. No bill; but somehow they can consistently spam me with my usage analysis every week. For at least the last 4 months I have been consistently robbed by Amigo with their late fees and their inability to send me my bill. Their complete and utter incompetency is baffling. I am eagerly awaiting the day my contract is up so I can cancel my service.

Right off the bat I payed a $175 payment I was told was my deposit due to my lack of rental history BEFORE I even had an account. The day before my move in day, my apartments manager let me know I wasn't found on a light company. When I called I was told that they never started up my account, yet they took my money. Now on my second months bill, I am being charged another $175 on top of my bill. I called and spoke to a representative who I had to tell multiple times I wanted to speak to a supervisor who finally transfered me. After finally get ahold of a manager, whose name was Anna I believe, she explains to me my second $175 charge was my deposit. When I explained in full detail I had already payed it she panicked, put me on hold and hung up on me. I called back getting the same representative from the first time, I immediately asked for another manager and was given Anna again who after a very very long hold period told me I then OWED more money. After going back and forth on and off hold as they are trying to figure out what THEY had to of done wrong, I am told they will have to call me another day after trying to figure out if I can even get a credit or refund. I am then told they will call me tomorrow morning after they figure out how to get my deposit where it should have been. THEN was HUNG UP ON AGAIN. I have received no refund or even clarity of the situation and now in fact owe even more money for what I was explained, absolutely no reason. To end this whole disastrous review, if you haven't already, DO NOT USE THEM. They are scammers they have no customer service skills at all.

Beware when you get 2+ year contracts they go from 10.4 cents perkw to 11.4, 12.4, 13.7, then on top of that they start charging a base charge of almost $10 to your bill. Horrible expierence. They only tell you whats convinient for them. Sadly i realized this 1 month before my contract is to expire. I called ahead of time thinking they were an honest company and got another 2 year contract. Supposely where my rate will never go up and NO BASE CHARGE ever for 2 years. If true i will change review. If amigo energy disappoints me again i will terminate this contract right away if they cant keep their word then why should i? but i will not be scammed or lied to ever again.

I called to make a payment arrangement and everything seemed fine and staff was helpful up until I called to make a payment on the scheduled time....the operator said they could not take payment that no arrangements showed up in the system. I asked to speak with the supervisor in charge . This supervisor informed me the same information...I argued my case and asked that they honor what was arraigned originally...the supervisor argued back and said she would have to put me on hold to review the recording of the original Telephone call with their representative and I. The supervisor gets back on the phone and let's me know that that representative should never had told me such Payment arrangements would be made. Therefore she could not honor the original agreement or take the payment originally agreed to. That in order to continue my service I would basically be forced into another agreement. This is after the fact over an hour and a half maybe two clarifying that she refused to honor our original agreement. So being forced to a new agreement or getting cut off having kids i had no choice at that instant timeover the weekend. I switched to a new Electric company on that Monday and refuse to pay amigo electric company based on this incident now itso the only thing I have bad showing on my credit THANK YOU FOR NOTHING AMIGO ENERGY....

Worst experience with an electric provider ever! I called them on a Wed to set up service to begin that Friday. I was told electricity would be on Friday between 9am and 9pm. By 830pm Friday my power was still not on! I had no one to call, no 24 hour support or anythig because the office close at 6pm Mon-Fri! I had to wait until Saturday morning to speak to someone only to be told that my enrollment was still in pending. The agent put me on a 15- 20 minute hold only to come back on the line and tell me they could have it on in 24-48 hours. What?? I moved in on Friday and it is now the weekend which means Im looking at maybe Monday for power to be connected!? So displeased I cancelled all services before they even began! I called my old provider (whom i should have just stayed with in the first place) and they had my power on in about 2-3 hours that same day (saturday)! I've definitely learned my lesson, cheaper is not always better!

After the first month it was too expensive for me so I switched. When the bill came it had an early termination fee. I called them and had to wait 24 hours before they called back. After speaking with them, they said that I wouldn't have had an early termination fee if I had called amigo energy and told them that I was switching. I was never told that at the beginning and I never received my contract. I am still fighting this and it is very shady business practices. Do not recommend. I don't see a review option, so I'll leave mine in a post. We were very happy with Amigo Energy until our contract ran out. We called them to see if they could give us another great rate, but they could not. So we shopped around, found a better rate and changed companies. Then the problems started. Our bill is usually due on the 2nd of every month. Well, since we canceled our service, Amigo decided our final bill would be due on the 13th. Since we pay all our bills online, we did not realize this due date change until we started getting threatening phone calls on the 16TH. (The 14th and 15th were a Saturday and Sunday, no less). We have tried to call and reason with them, no such luck. Meanwhile the threatening phone calls continue. Our bill would not have been due for another week, but because we canceled, they have been harassing us for 3 weeks. So, do yourselves a favor and pick a different energy company.

I switched plans because Amigo raised their rates to where I could not afford them. So when I go to their website it shows a statement instructing me to use my perks before they expire. So I went in their today (expiration day) and tried to use my perks points. Perks site shows I was suspended even thought they expire today. Amigo says I can no longer use my perks. Their explanation was I was no longer an Amigo customer. I'm not sure if they are reading meter's right because we have been suffering in the Texas heat just to see how our bill turned out and it's still almost $500. When we started out we ran heat and air 24/7 and our bill was never that high now we hardly use anything and we are paying for suffering not really sure where they are getting their calculations. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!
I have been a loyal customer for over 10 yrs with them. They have had really good customer service up until this year. On renewal they gave me 14 cents when market highest was 11 cents. I was out of town so I had to commit so lose service. Then they asked if I wanted to pay an extra 10$ for renewable electricity, which I told them that was the company's problem to fix their portfolio, not the customers. So for 3 months they had been telling me that I could set arrangements for 3 payments, but each and every time they never honored the third and had to scramble to meet higher payment. Mind you my bills are close to $500 due to the ridiculous rate they are charging. So this month called to make arrangements, they informed me new policies took place on July 17th where company won't make any more payment arrangements more than 3 times in a year period. To kick it further this is not just going forward, but goes retro. As a customer, I have not received anything in mail advising of all these policy changes they are making.
My suggestion.....run away as fast as you can from this company. They have changed and service to customers is no longer important.

Thiefs, liars
I worked for Amigo Energy and it's the worst company I have ever worked as a customer service representative. They dont pay us for the sales and lie to us about how there gonna look into it. It's a lie there not they push us to make sales but at the end we dont get paid. They lie about the plans they offer. So be very careful before you sign up with this company. There plans are not what they seem they are.

Amigo promises but cannot seem to get anything right.
1. To start I explicitly asked to be left off the promotions lists ... not hammered with emails, texts and phone calls almost immediately after placing my order.
2. Calling back to get taken off the list I asked to not be a part of, I realized that the customer service number they advertise 888-469-2644 is answered bu what sounds like an old-school fax machine.
3. Of course the bill was sent right on time, but they failed to link my account to the login to their website so I could pay my bill online.
4. During the time that they are trying to figure out how I can pay my bill they want to charge be a "past due fee". ... Not to mention the that they could not get the separation of billing address and service address right!
5. After less than 60 days of service I called and cancelled (calling to cancel was a condition of the contract or get charged a fee).
6. After calling to cancel they tried charge me a fee anyway - despite living up to the language of my contract: "as per the terms of your Agreement, you will be required to pay exit fees, unless you contact us directly." Still wasting my time fighting that!
Thankful to be rid of such a sh*tty provider anyway.

12 Year Customer and NO Loyalty
1/2020 - I received a bill for $461.73 for 1 month. They charged me 18.999/kwh! Come to find out, I was being charged that for the past 6mths. Obviously, the 2+ year contract ended, however, I don't look at my bills; just go online and pay them. So, I called today 1/27/20 to see what can be done about this bill and they stated "Nothing can be done about this bill but we can put you back on a plan to reduce the rate." The rep escalated the call to a "retention specialist" who then told me the same thing. In 12 years with them, I never had my electricity turned-off, however, they mentioned the couple of times I was late (guess I'm the only one). Nonetheless, I paid them their last monies they'll get from me after gouging me for 6mths. A company losses a $21,600 revenue stream (avg 150/mth*12yrs) over a 461.73 bill. Nice Job!**Let me guess - I'm sorry to hear about your recent experience as we value each and every one of our customers. We appreciate the 12 years you chose us as your provider. I would like to get your account information so I can look into your unique situation. blah blah blah**

Very disappointed with the plan and costumer service. I started out with a 12 month plan. The rate was very good, but when it was time to renew, I was told that the rate had change but it would not go up very much. My bill had almost doubled and my unit had not been on since the summer. When I call costumer service they will let the phone ring for hours while you listen to a recording. EXTREMELY DIASPPOINTED.

Amigo is not your friend!
Amigo Energy is a terrible company to do business with. We were charged $175 for an early termination fee and we are moving to an area they do not service (could not transfer service). Additionally, the switch was initiated by the prospective tenant of the individual we sold our house to. While we were still transitioning from one house to another, they made the switch and Amigo charged me $175. They won't waive the fee because I "did not inform them." That is my point! I didn't inform them! They allowed the switch and charged me $175. Stay away from Amigo...they aren't your friend!

Amigo Engery is horrible
I have with them for years and in the beginning they were awesome, but I had nothing but problems since then. Most times their app does not accept payments, when you call you are put through the wringer and nobody is ever available. The website is not much better. Had to research to find a way to pay my bill more then once because their system was down and on top of that they will charge a horrendous late charge, even when you can proof that you tried to pay for several days.
Their customer service is bad.

Im not angry because Ive been with the company for four years, I would expect better customer service at this point but they only want your money and nothing less. I paid my bill the next morning after it was due and they charged a $25 late fee. Thats ridiculous considering the pandemic that we are still in right now! They should offer a grace period of a week, at least! I cannot wait until my contract is up so I can move on to better companies! Also, dont ever give up when trying to get out of paying their ridiculous fees. Spend as much time as you need researching their company and policies before you just hand over extra money. They are inexperienced to say the least and they argue like children. Fight for your money!!!

when I change to free nights, I new my daytime charges would increase, but really over 65 % was at night. I should save 25 to 30 percent on my bill with the increase amount. Of course they did the unthinkable. They graph my usage way up when I change to no heat days, no laundry days. no light downstairs days. up the heat at 9PM off at 7AM breakfast at 6AM laundry only between 9PM-7AM my bill went up $260 and I would told my bill would decrease from $167 .

Total Disappointment
Had a 3 months plan with Amigo at an average rate of 8 cents per kWhr. Once I was out of contract, the rate went up to 19 cents per kWhr!! I did call their customer service and told them that it is acceptable that a rate increase is expected once I am out of contract, but, not double the rate!!! The gentlemen, although courteous, did not even offer any kind of a break and simply said it is what it is and this is the market price. So, I did tell him that I will write a bad review and this is it! They lost a customer for few dollars - Not the right kind of company that apprecuiates its customers.

Incase anyone is looking at electric providers in Texas, stay away from Amigo Energy. Ive been with them at every address Ive ever had as an adult (10+years) because they are cheap. Theyve always been a beating to deal with but for the savings I would deal with it on all of my properties in the past. As of today, they are no longer worth dealing with. If you dont like paying fees (hundreds of dollars) and arent cool with someone threatening your credit while they hide behind a contract, I urge you to use anyone else and save yourself the headache. I am so beyond upset.

literally the worst BILLING provider in electrical service
This company is the absolute worst with billing. roughly 30% of the time, the website shows that my payment went through ( I have multiple meters), only to find out 3-5 days later the payment didn't go through. They start calling a day before your bill is due in regard to a "late Payment". the payment date changes month to month. For some reason, even though I connected two meters at the same location on the same day, the bills are due 5 days apart now. the online chat is impossible to work with, only offering an auto response with a fake name. Seriously, I do not understand how Amigo stays in business. I'd rather buy electricity from North Korea.

Do Yourself A Favor - Don't Choose Amigo Energy
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST - Do yourself a HUGE favor - stay as far away from this company as possible. I originally signed up for a one year contract. Nine months in I get a courtesy call telling me they have a better rate. I said I would switch ONLY is this did not extend my contract which expired on 02/23/2023. The man on the line said it would NOT and that I could change at anytime. I repeated this multiple times and I also stated I do not ever lock myself into a plan longer than 12 months and I wanted the opportunity to explore current rates when my contract expired on 02/23/2023. After thinking about this for two days I called them back and asked them to switch me back to my original plan and I found out they put me on a FIVE YEAR plan! The lady assured me it was switched back. If it was switched back after two days then why would I get charged a much higher rate for the entire next bill if this was such a great plan and was supposed to save me money? I have no problem for being charged for two days at that rate but you aren't about to charge me the whole month when it should've been changed the moment I called back. I also lost a $75 credit each month if I used 1,000 or more kWh. After really studying my bills I discovered this was never changed back, I was put into a five year contract set to expire 11/28/2027, I was still being charged for this new plan at a higher rate that was supposed to save me money and I lost the $75 usage credit. I called to dispute and was told they would have to listen to the recorded call from that evening. I said by all means because I know what I asked multiple times and I also know what I was told. After escalating this three people later I was told they would contact me back in about a week. Well, one day shy of TWO weeks still nothing. After switching providers when my original contract was set to expire my final bill seemed extremely high. After reviewing it I was charged a $175 early termination fee!!! Mind you I have a renewal offer mailed from Amigo Energy dated 01/15/23 stating my contract is set to expire on 02/23/23 - so WHY would I be charged an early termination fee??? My new service started the following day! Mad as h*ll at this point that I was still waiting for answers from two weeks ago now I have to dispute this too. So here I wait for them to reverse this early termination fee along with recalculating the bills which were wrong. Never, ever will I do business with Amigo Energy ever again. Just don't do it - you will thank me later!

Because they dont see an issue to have to send someone they will charge me to send someone to check it. Im a single mother it hard enough with all my other bills and then power bill going up every month when I do what I can to cut down the bill when only to find them charms more but then u charging me 75 or 100 to come out to check it. Deceptive plans
This is a very deceptive company. I was told that my cost would be 11 cents / kilowatt and then would get a $75 credit if I used at least 1000 / killowatts per month. When in fact, what they do is charge you 13.5 cents per killowatt and then give you a $75 discount bringing you down to the 11.5 cents per killowatt. That is a completely different approach. They also fail to tell you that they charge you a $50 "pass thru charge" which they say is what Reliant is charging them to be able to handle your account. So, that eats up almost any discount one might get. It is better to go with Reliant in the end.

****WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER**** i got services with the back in march 2023 and without notice i had no electricity due to someone requested a change of provider WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION OR REQUEST!!! Here i am 2 months later still trying to correct the issue and keep getting the run arround - if i could go back to day one of choosing a provider i would definitely pick another company!! I would give them a negative rating if i could...

Faulty Website/Automation in order to charge more fees!
Sometimes scams come about in the most unique ways. This scam is one that I never even imagined. Amigo Energy (which disguises itself as 3 different companies) provides a pretty good energy rate at PowertoChoose website. Signing up for their plan up is awkward and not like many other providers. Unlike the other providers where you can simply go online and do things yourself, you have to call in to their marketing and upsell department where they try to sell you on EVERY other product besides the rate and plan that you call for, so first strike, be careful and make SURE you have a copy of the Energy Facts Label. I should have known right at that moment that the company is shady. To get the rate published, I was required to sign up for autodraft which I always do and have NO problem doing. Here is when the shady part takes place days later. Amigo Energy's autodraft feature is faulty. Amigo will claim that your payment is declined and charge you a $22 disconnect notice fee. Contact your payment provider and they will confirm. Then, when you try to utilize the website, it does not properly login or work and Amigo will say that it is your internet connection. Since, the website is faulty, you have little choice to pay over the phone and get charged yet another $5. So, in the long run, you are getting an extra $27 monthly tagged on to your bill. AVOID AMIGO ENERGY AT ALL COSTS!

Cannot Pay Bill and the Bill I get is not what the salesperson said
I have tried for 4 days to pay my bill online. The website is useless. Even though I did not forget my password I went ahead and did a "forgot password" and they they said that the email address that I've used for 20 years is not a valid email address. It is impossible to pay my bill online. Then I finally get to a live person and he is some guy with an accent that you cannot understand. This is the sorriest company that I have ever used. I am bailing and paying them the hostage fee and getting to some company that is truthful and has live persons to assist customers instead of some voice computer.
