Compare Basic Service Rates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The supply rate schedule changes<\/a> won’t begin until August 2024. However, National Grid<\/strong> and Eversource<\/strong> customers will see basic service rate hikes starting on November 1, 2023, and January 1, 2024, respectively. In fact, National Grid<\/strong> customers will see their rates rise by nearly 29%, from 14.115 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 18.213 cents per kWh. As for Eversource<\/strong> customers, they currently pay 16.078 cents per kWh. And while we don’t yet know what the new January rates will be, extreme weather<\/a> can lead to higher prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To put this in perspective, the average MA home uses about 600 kWh of energy per month. So National Grid<\/strong> monthly supply charges will rise from about $84 a month to about $109 a month. And Eversource<\/strong> customers may see supply charges rise even higher that the current estimated average of $96.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Shop Now For Cheap Energy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

But now is a great time to shop rates. Typically, energy prices are at their lowest during the two annual shoulder month<\/a> periods. That’s because the weather is mild, heating and cooling systems are left off, and energy demand is low. And when demand is low, prices tend to drop as well. So, if you shop these cheap energy plans now, you can lock in savings that will last well into the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cheapest Energy Rates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Constellation<\/a><\/strong> is worth checking out for the cheapest possible rates. Their 36 Month Home Power Plan<\/strong> charges 14.29 cents per kWh. This averages to monthly supply charges of about $85. This is $11 cheaper than Eversource<\/strong> and $24 cheaper than the new National Grid<\/strong> rate. Constellation<\/strong> also sends out regular energy usage emails, that can help you monitor your energy saving<\/a> goals. You might also want plans without early termination fees. That way, you can enjoy more flexibility if rate change favorably next year. In that case, you may want to check out NRG Home<\/a>.<\/strong> Their 12-Month Electric Choice Plan<\/strong> charges 14.80 cents per kWh for 12 months of power. This rate means an estimated $88 monthly supply charge ($21 less than the new National Grid<\/strong> rate)! Best of all, NRG Home<\/strong> has a variety of cash-back deals that you may be able to take advantage of after 6 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
