We’re about a month into the coldest part of the winter. That means turning up the heat to stay comfy and paying big winter electricity bills<\/a>. That’s why it’s important to know how to shop Massachusetts electricity suppliers<\/a> and how to save with their cheap electric plans. But is now the right time to switch plans? Here’s how you can shop for the best electricity plans in Boston!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cheap Boston Basic Service Rates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It’s important to check basic service rates, before checking out the best energy supplier rates. Right now, Eversource<\/a><\/strong> customers are paying 15.772 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). EIA estimates that MA homes use an average of 559 kWh<\/a> of energy per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putting this together, the average MA home would pay about $88 for the supply portion of their bill. Keep in mind, however, that the Eversource<\/strong> basic service rate<\/a> is set to change to 13.241 cents per kWh. This means the average bill will fall to about $74 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only does this plan power your home with 100% clean wind energy, but it does so at a 14.60 cents per kWh rate. That rate means a monthly supply charge of about $81.61. That’s almost $7 less than current basic service rates. Best of all, this plan doesn’t charge an early termination fee. This means you can cancel the plan at no cost if your living situation changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the way, it’s important to remember that any plan you sign up for won’t go into effect until after the next meter read. So, if you lock in a new plan this month, you won’t actually start on that new plan until next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
